How To Make A Bad Day Better

Even if happiness forgets you a little bit, never completely forget about it.
Jacques Prévert

Are you having a bad day? Does it seem like the universe just doesn’t want you to be happy? Sometimes we can wake up on the wrong side of the bed and the rest of the day follows in misfortune. Today was one of those days for me; I was unmotivated, lethargic, stressed out, and feeling like everything was going wrong. But I chose to feel better today! I did these 10 things that turned my bad day into a good one.  I can honestly say that I’m happy now, especially since I get to share these tips with you. Get ready to change your bad day in 3…2…1

10 things you can do to make a bad day better

1. Listen to Uplifting Music

Music has a chemical effect on the brain known as dopamine, a feel good hormone. Usually if we’re in a bad mood we want to listen to sad or depressing music… Sorry Adele but we need to listen to something uplifting. Find some happy songs and jam away.  You may even find yourself dancing.

Eat nutricious food like a green smoothie to make a bad day better

2. Eat Nutritious Foods

I didn’t really feel like cooking today so I quickly through together one of my favorite green smoothies. The worst thing you can do when you feel down is eat junk food. Eat food that will love you back!

3. Pray

I don’t know if you’re a spiritual person or not but there’s something about letting go and giving your troubles to a higher power. It can be a simple 1 minute prayer to God. It doesn’t need to be fancy, just speak from the heart.

Write in a Journal to make a bad day better

4. Write in a Journal

There is something so special about writing down your feelings, hopes, and dreams. It’s a great time of solitude to help you put things into perspective. Be vulnerable; these words are just for you, let out that pent up emotion.

5. Laugh!

Laughter is the best medicine! It boosts the immune system, eases anxiety, relieves stress, and brings you joy. Find a funny YouTube video or watch your favorite funny movie and just laugh and smile!

6. Exercise

Get moving and get happy! Though getting yourself to move is hard enough since you need to get motivated to do it. Today I just couldn’t get myself to workout. I watched an episode of The Biggest Loser on Hulu and I got all of the motivation I needed. Watching those people fight for their lives was so inspiring, I got into my workout gear and went for a run. It was invigorating and I felt the power come back into my body! Find your motivation and get some exercise into your day. Afterwards have a nice stretch and bring some relaxation to those muscles! Read about why you should workout outdoors!

7. Enjoy Nature

After I went for my 30 minute run, I went to the park and sat under my favorite tree and watched the sun go down. I stopped seeing the world in such a negative way and enjoyed the beauty of nature. Give Ecotherapy a try, get out and enjoy some sunshine and fresh air.

8. Do Something Nice for Someone Else

No matter how bad you may be feeling there is always someone going through worse. Whether it’s a stranger, a friend, or a family member; do something nice for someone else and take your mind off of yourself. You may feel selfish at the end or your nice deed because it gave you so much joy.

9. Do Something You Love

Whether it’s drawing, painting, singing, or surfing; make time to do something you love! You deserve to feel happy doing something you enjoy. I personally adore writing this blog and sharing advice on how you can bring some muzic into your life. I’m so happy I pushed through this bad day to give you tips on how you can have a better day.

10. Make a Choice

Sometimes we want to be in a bad mood, I dare you to make a choice right now to be joyful! Remember that happiness and sadness are only feelings! Feelings come and go. We can often make very bad decisions listening to a feeling. Decisions we may later regret. Don’t let feelings rule you, don’t let one bad day define you, be free and be joyful. Sometimes we have to have a bad day to know a good one. Whether you deal with depression or today was just a bad day, know that it always gets better!
