When I found out that I was going to China, I became very curious about hooping culture in China. Hooping, has become a huge movement here in the United States, as well as many other forms of flow arts. Hooping culture as it is today started about a decade ago at festivals in California, since then, thousands have succumbed to the movement meditation that is hooping, including yours truly! I was curious, would I meet another hooper in China? Is hula hooping a form of dance/creative expression like it is in the states, or is it seen more as just a child’s toy?
From what I saw, hooping in China seems to be more of an exercise tool than a dance for adults. Although I have seen Chinese hoopers on social media. Fast forward, I was in China! After a full day of exploring, I was ecstatic when I saw hula hoops being sold at a local market! When I saw this little red hoop, I knew I had to have it. I actually had a dream that I was hooping with a red hoop, just like it months before I even knew I’d be going to China. So why not turn a little dream into a reality? I snatched this beauty for 8 Yuan (Under $2.00 um yes, please!
This is a little hoop dance with a little red hoop. I hope you enjoy!
