10 Things to Do to Show Yourself Love

This month on the Muzic To My Ears blog is Love Yourself Month as a part of our self improvement plan.  Loving yourself is so important! Especially as a woman. In a world that puts us down for every blemish and flaw, compares us to each other, and sexually objectifies us, self love has become essential!  Follow along this month as we learn how to love ourselves and be the best we can be!

I’m back after a week of digital detox; no social media, no computer, no tv.  I had a quick Facebook cheat, but other than that, It was a beautiful week.  At first, I thought it would be hard, but it felt like it had been my natural way of life all along.  I read 2 books, I ventured outdoors, I had more face to face conversations, I was more present, more alive.  I learned more about myself than I have in a year. Many unanswered questions I had were answered just by looking inside.  I hope to do these digital detoxes on the last week of every month going forward. It’s my little way of keeping life in perspective.

When I was on my digital detox, I had a lot of time to think.  I was thinking a lot about self love.  When we love other people, we try to show them the love we feel for them through gifts and kind words; why shouldn’t we do the same for ourselves.  One doesn’t know if they are loved unless love is expressed to them.  And that’s what we’ll be talking about today; different ways to show yourself love.  I thought up 10 ways you can show yourself love that I would like to share with you today.

10 Things to Do to Show Yourself Love

1. Take Time for Yourself

Stressed or overwhelmed? It’s probably time for some “me” time.  As an introvert, I love taking time for myself; maybe a little too much!  Sometimes we need that quality time to relax, unwind, and reflect.  In these times, you may learn cool things about yourself and find new inspiration for life.  So do whatever you want!  Read a book, write in your diary, eat a huge bowl of nice cream while watching a Golden Girls marathon!  The last one may only apply to me…

2. Eat Foods That Love You Back

I remember a time when little Zoe ate foods so bad that now big Zoe literally cringes to think about it (did I just talk about myself in third person)?  I would binge on ice cream, mini hamburgers, and potato chips. I was basically eating my worst enemy; nutrient poor foods that make the body sluggish and unhealthy. When I went vegan, I felt this deep sense of self love because I was eating foods that loved me back; fruits and veggies! Try eating more nutrient dense whole foods that make the body feel good.

3. Don’t Compare Yourself to Others

If you’re an avid reader of this blog, then you’re probably tired of me saying this, but too bad! This month is Love Yourself Month on the MTME blog so get used to it!  I know it’s hard!  But I learned something important while I was on my digital detox; when I’m not constantly looking at “perfect girls” on social media, I actually feel pretty sexy! Well, maybe sexy is pushing it, but I feel better about myself.  No one is as awesome, beautiful, and lovely as you, only you can be you!

4. Stay Away from Pride

Okay, I know I gave you a super yummy compliment just now, but don’t get cocky on me!  Pride is actually the opposite of self love, it’s based in insecurity.  Having pride protects us from a feeling of low self-esteem.  It’s exhausting to try to put yourself above other people to feel better about yourself; with self love, you don’t even have to bother.  The way to start is with a humble heart.  “Oh no she didn’t just rhyme.”  Oh yes she did!

5. Learn More about Yourself

Take time to get to know yourself better; a diary is the perfect place to start.  I’ve learned so much about myself by simply taking 20 minutes to write about my day and my inner most thoughts.  Also, when you take time to just slow down in life and really connect to who you are, not only will you promote self love in your life, but you’ll make better decisions for yourself going forward.

6. Take Yourself on a Date

You can tell I’m single from this one… But who cares!  I have no shame taking myself to Coffee Bean for a blended mocha, an outdoor table, and a book.  The ability to be alone with yourself is a lost art, but it improves self awareness and allows you to be an individual.  My ultimate goal is to do solo travel around the world and meet cool people along the way. Until then, I’ll enjoy those random trips to the beach. #idontneedamantobehappy #seriouslythoughfindmeaboyfriend #justkidding #thisisawekward

7. Hang With People Who Love You

Those silly people who make you smile, encourage you when you’re down, and make fun of you relentlessly, those people are keepers.  Surround yourself with kind, loving people who bring out the best in you.

8. Improve Yourself

I recently went on a journey of self improvement, but the best thing about self improvement is that you’re never done improving.  There is always something new to learn or discover.  I get such a warm fuzzy feeling when I achieve a goal or a task. As you grow as a human, your love for yourself grows with you.

9. Do Things You Love

Do you have a hobby or passion that makes your soul smile? Awesome! Do it more!  I’ve been loving yoga.  It’s such a cool experience to feel your body getting stronger as you try new poses.  I recently did my first handstand!  I was totally scared at first, but after I did it, I was hooked.  But I must say, the biggest thing that makes my heart blush is running this blog.  Thanks for hanging with me today by the way!

10. Tell yourself!

Let yourself know you love yourself by telling yourself so (that was a tong twister).  Recite positive self affirmations daily to align your thoughts with self love.  If you’re one that has a hard time with self love; maybe you have low self esteem, or deal with self hatred,  I’ve been there!  You may not feel like showing yourself love because you don’t feel worth loving. I promise you, you are so worth it!

I hope these 10 tips help you show yourself some luuuv.  Okay loves, you’ve read this post so what are you waiting for, go do the things you love, hang with loved ones,  or take yourself on a date! Personally, I’m going to go eat some dark chocolate, because chocolate always makes me feel loved.

Live a life that’s muzic to your ears!
